Full story below…
As reported, TikTok is facing a seismic shutdown for users in America after the US Supreme Court upheld the historic ruling mandating that the Chinese-owned platform cannot function in the country unless it’s sold to a US-owned entity.
Without a confirmed buyer and no definitive political intervention, it’s looking increasingly likely that the platform will cease to exist Stateside fromtomorrow.
A plea from TikTok echoed as much in a post shared on their official website.
Touting the effect on 170 Million Americans, the message read:
“The statements issued today by both the Biden White House and the Department of Justice have failed to provide the necessary clarity and assurance to the service providers that are integral to maintaining TikTok’s availability to over 170 million Americans.
Unless the Biden Administration immediately provides a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers assuring non-enforcement, unfortunately TikTok will be forced to go dark on January 19.”
Ahead of the possible TikTok ban, users have been flocking to apps such as Lemon8 (which is owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance) and RedNote.
