One of the NFL’s most recognizable quarterbacks and a beloved character in New Orleans Saints history, Drew Brees, has acknowledged that he is unable to use his right arm anymore as a result of his long-term physical issues after retiring.

Linked to the shoulder injury that nearly ended his career twenty years ago while playing for the San Diego [now Los Angeles] Chargers, the 46-year-old, who led the team to Super Bowl XLIV success in the 2008–09 season, conveyed the heartbreaking discovery.

Brees revealed during an interview with ESPN Radio’s Greeny that although he still gets interest in playing again, his physical condition has limited his ability to consider the possibility. Brees said:

“Look, I’ll let you in on a little fact,”. “I don’t throw with my right arm anymore. My right arm does not work.

“So, when I throw in the backyard right now, I throw left-handed. If I could, I would absolutely still be playing.”

After signing in 2006, the year that Dr. James Andrews performed what was then a very complicated and unusual shoulder restoration procedure, employing 12 anchors to heal a full 360-degree labrum rupture, he became a legend in New Orleans. He played in the NFL from 2001 to 2020.
