Undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez shocked fans and commentators by implying that he would soon retire, before of his highly anticipated fight against Terence Crawford.
In a recent interview with the media, Alvarez implied that a bout with Crawford might be “the end” of his storied boxing career, and he is already making plans to leave.
Alvarez is preparing to take on Crawford on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, having just defended the title for the fifth time in a row. However, the Mexican legend is already looking beyond boxing as the sport’s biggest bout makes its promotional debut.
“I think the Crawford fight will be his last fight,” boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said, referring to Canelo’s careful training in recent camps and the toll it takes on his aging body.
The ultimate test for Alvarez—and possibly the ideal way to end the story—is the megafight with unbeaten Terence “Bud” Crawford.
The three-weight undisputed champion Crawford will weigh 168 pounds for the fight. Crawford is aware that a victory would leave his mark, but he is still exploring the idea of retiring following the crucial match.
