Luka Dončić And His Lakers Career Are Now Going Full Throttle

The Lakers-Mavs game on Tuesday was everything from typical, even if it was Game 56 of 82. The first meeting between the teams after the historic trade that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas and Luka Doncic to Los Angeles created a plethora of narratives.

When Luka faced his old squad, everyone was watching to see how he would respond. Would he have the same moment of insanity as he had against the Nuggets?

Was there any possibility that he would welcome Nico Harrison, the general manager of the Mavs and the person thought of as the trade’s spokesperson? And, above all, would the Lakers triumph?

Luka didn’t ultimately go out of commission, but he did close the game with his first triple-double as a Laker: 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists.

The no-look passing guru also claimed he was not aware of his former general manager’s presence, even though Harrison was on the scorer’s table during Luka’s pregame warmup.

Luka Doncic is well and truly a Lakers player now

Players often minimize outside motive and vengeance games in addition to performing well, but on Tuesday, doing so would make one appear as disconnected from reality as the “This is fine” dog. After the game, Luka was honest and unable to express how he felt. He stated: “I don’t know, honestly, it seemed so weird, the moments,”

“I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing. I’m glad we got the win.”

Luka experienced a range of emotions during this competition, but in the first quarter, just Luka the tyrant was visible. He was as flamboyant as ever, making 3-pointers and scoring inside. He led the squad in minutes, assists, rebounds, and points in the first frame.

Three minutes into the game, he even received a tech for staring at the referees. And he told the Mavericks all about it after making a 3-pointer. They used to enjoy Luka’s killer mindset, but now they were the ones being targeted and powerless to stop it.

Additional Luka moments were interspersed throughout the first half. Later in the second quarter, as Luka was making free throws, Lakers supporters poured salt to the Dallas wounds by yelling, “Thank you, Nico,” after Dončić had a stunning no-look pass to Austin Reaves.

Fortunately, LeBron James is a member of the Lakers’ roster. This is still LeBron’s world, even though this night might have been Luka’s. In the fourth quarter, he was dominant, handing out two assists, collecting five rebounds, and scoring 16 points.

Even better than peanut butter and jelly was the combination of LeBron and Luka. Halfway through the fourth quarter, Dončić and James had played the two-man game, trapping P.J. Washington in the middle and forcing him to choose between staying with James on the perimeter or assisting Luka in the post.

He was tormented by Luka and LeBron as he kept switching places with the two players until LeBron ended his suffering by scoring a three-pointer to give the Lakers the lead again.
