Everyone was totally unprepared for yesterday’s announcement that Kevin Durant was being dealt to the Houston Rockets. We anticipated a deal, but we didn’t anticipate it occurring just hours before the NBA Finals’ seventh game. Due to the rarity of the incident, many analysts were forced to hold back their opinions.
Stephen A. Smith, however, has had more time to sit down and consider the move now that the Finals are over. He questioned the Miami Heat’s lack of interest in getting involved and discussed who he liked the transaction better and why both parties made it.
Kevin Durant will only be going to the Rockets. In the meantime, the Suns are getting five second-round selections, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and the 10th overall choice in this year’s draft.
Stephen A. Smith talks value of Kevin Durant
The first thing that came to mind for Stephen A. was how the deal formally opened Houston’s title window.
On The Stephen A. Smith Show, Stephen A. stated: “OKC is still a +220, still about nearly four times better than the Houston Rockets. But that doesn’t mean the Houston Rockets aren’t a title contender. As you see, they’re in the top 4 in terms of ESPN Bet odds, because they should be,”
“Well, Kevin Durant is like 36, turns 37 at the end of September. And he’s in a position to sign a two-year deal, which means he’d be playing and making over $60+ million approaching his 39th birthday. My attitude is so what. He’s Kevin Durant, he’s that dude,”
The Rockets should definitely be discussed in relation to the championship, even though it seems like a dynasty is starting in Oklahoma City after they won the title. They should be a powerful offensive and defensive force with Durant joining Alperen Sengun, Fred VanVleet, and Amen Thompson.
