Terence Crawford Speaks Out About His Potential Retirement

Terence Crawford is up against more than just a physical opponent as he prepares to face Canelo Alvarez in the boxing arena in a few weeks.

In addition, he must face the question that has plagued his perfect career: Is this the end? The 37-year-old Crawford is getting ready to advance two weight classes for the most well-known bout of his career. On September 13, he will face the inherently bigger Alvarez at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The fight, which is being promoted as one of the biggest boxing spectacles in recent years, will be available to view globally on Netflix.

Crawford’s future is much less clear, even though Alvarez has stated that he intends to retire at age 37 following the conclusion of his current fight contract with Turki Alalshikh.

Terence Crawford opens up on retirement

Crawford was asked if he worries about the risks of a sport that has caused long-term harm to some of its greatest icons during a recent sit-down interview with Piers Morgan.

Morgan mentioned boxers who had serious injuries and pointed out that Muhammad Ali’s deteriorating health was linked to his prolonged participation in the sport. He enquired: “Does that play on your mind, Terence?”

Crawford gave an honest response:  “Of course, of course. I always say I was going to retire from boxing. I wasn’t going to let boxing retire me.” “We are in the hurt business. And..We know what to expect. We know what’s at risk. We know the things that could happen.”

Crawford has previously discussed this. He made almost the same comments earlier this year about carefully deciding when to retire and making sure it occurs on his terms.
