LSU WR Kyren Lacy Dead at Age of 24 After Taking His Own Life

The sports world is mourning the tragic loss of Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver and NFL Draft prospect, who died at the age of 24 on April 12, 2025, in Houston, Texas. His death, suspected to be a suicide, occurred just days before a scheduled court appearance related to a fatal car crash in December 2024.

A Promising Career Cut Short

Born on December 27, 2000, in Thibodaux, Louisiana, Lacy showcased his football talents early on at Thibodaux High School, leading to his commitment to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. After two seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns, he transferred to LSU in 2022, where he became a key player. In the 2024 season, Lacy recorded 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns, leading the team in touchdown receptions and ranking second in catches and receiving yards.Over his collegiate career, he amassed 162 catches for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns. 

Legal Challenges and Untimely Death

On December 17, 2024, Lacy was allegedly involved in a high-speed crash in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, that resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. Authorities accused Lacy of reckless driving and fleeing the scene without providing aid. He was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. Lacy turned himself in on January 12, 2025, and was released on $151,000 bail. A grand jury was scheduled to hear evidence in the case on April 14.  

Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, expressed confidence that the evidence would lead to a declination of charges, criticizing the investigation as overzealous and prejudiced. He highlighted the intense media scrutiny and social media backlash Lacy faced, suggesting that the pressure became unbearable.
