Kyren Lacy, a Standout Wide Receiver for LSU, Passed Away in Houston at the Age of 25

The death of wide receiver Kyren Lacy was announced this Sunday, shocking Louisiana State University (LSU). The Tigers standout declared for the 2025 NFL Draft despite dealing with the fallout from a vehicle accident he was in at the end of 2024.

Lacy was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2020 and a graduate of Louisiana’s Thibodaux High. The young receiver transferred to LSU in 2022 after first enrolling with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. Lacy was the Tigers’ top receiver in the 2024–2025 campaign, hauling in 58 passes for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.

Lacy announced his intention to enter the 2025 NFL Draft in December of last year. According to early assessments, he is a versatile receiver who is technically proficient but lacks exceptional athleticism. He was regarded by scouts as a third-day potential.

The December accident and Kyren Lacy’s cause of death

The cause of Lacy’s death has not been disclosed by authorities. The aftermath of the young receiver’s vehicle tragedy in Louisiana in December, which claimed the life of a 78-year-old man, was still bothering him, though.

Lacy was driving on Louisiana Highway 20, passing other vehicles unlawfully, and colliding head-on with another vehicle, according to official sources. Reports state that Lacy left the site without contacting the police or helping the injured.

On January 10, 2025, police issued an arrest warrant for Lacy, who, after agreeing with authorities, turned himself in on January 12. He was freed on $151,000 bail that same day. Local media reported that a grand jury was scheduled to start considering the case’s evidence on Monday.

For the young receiver, the past few months have been difficult. not just because of the mishap he was in, but also because of the way he played. When Lacy celebrated a touchdown pass at the Modelo Vegas Kickoff Classic in January, he became the subject of controversy.

The 24-year-old receiver pretended to shoot a rifle at the opposition players as a way to celebrate after collecting the pass from quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
