Jonathan Kuminga Discusses His Goals Before Free Agency

Free agency will be tested this summer by Jonathan Kuminga. The worst thing that could happen to Golden State is if Kuminga leaves this summer without a reason. The team’s most valuable player, other than Stephen Curry, is the 22-year-old. Sadly, despite playing for the Warriors for four seasons, he hasn’t been able to realize his full potential.

His inability to grow isn’t because he struggles to perform. Actually, when given the chance, Kuminga flourishes. However, that is where the issue is. The chance to demonstrate his abilities on the basketball floor has not been given to him.

Kuminga is aware of the situation before he experiences free agency for the first time. He obviously adores the city and the supporters, but he must put his own needs first.

In an interview with Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Kuminga stated: “I did it here and there, but it was never a consistent role, a consistent role given to me,”

“I want it to be a consistent role. Because I know what I got. I know what I could bring, and I know how much work I put in. I know I’m dedicated to this game, how much I love the game,”

Regarding his role on the club, Kuminga and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr haven’t exactly agreed. The 6-foot-8 forward demonstrated his ability to produce at a high level throughout the 2023–24 season. During a seven-game period in January 2024, Kuminga shot 62.1% from the floor and scored 25.9 points per game.

This past season, Kuminga’s role decreased rather than increased in light of his breakthrough.
