Giants GM Joe Schoen Hypes Shedeur Sanders

Earlier this week, Schoen and the Giants‘ management had a meeting with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at the Shrine Bowl practices. Joe Schoen, general manager of the New York Giants, is already heavily involved in assessing college prospects, especially quarterbacks.

And Schoen, the head of a Giants team that desperately needs a franchise quarterback, told reporters at the Senior Bowl this week that Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, with whom he, head coach Brian Daboll, assistant general manager Brandon Brown, and other top Giants personnel executives met with at the Shrine Bowl earlier this week, has impressed him.

Joe Schoen praises Shedeur Sanders

At the Senior Bowl workouts, Schoen commented during a break: “He’s a great kid, a really good personality, football smart, his dad is a football coach,” “It’s a little bit cliché, but he checks all the boxes of a [player with a] dad who is a football coach and the passion with which he approaches the game.”

“We’re going to be open to anything,” “We’re in a good position sitting at three with the available players. By process of elimination, we know we’re going to get a good player. Regardless of what happens the next couple of months, we know there’s going to be a really good player there.” “It was good getting to meet him,”

“He’s had a really good career at Colorado and obviously looking forward to getting to knowing all those guys in the rest of the process.”

Shedeur Sanders is not short of suiters

Whether Sanders is actually the greatest quarterback available in this year’s draft class is the Giants’ main concern, aside from whether he will ever reach them at No. 3 in the overall order where they are slated to select.

This class also includes Cam Ward of Miami, who is also anticipated to be selected in the first round, as well as anticipated Day 2 selections like Kyle McCord of Syracuse, Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss, and Jalen Milroe of Alabama.

Sanders enjoyed his best season with the Buffaloes in 2024 and placed seventh in this year’s Heisman Trophy voting. He topped the FBS in 2024 with a 74% completion percentage after completing his two-year tenure at Colorado with a 71.8% mark.

With at least 330 dropbacks, he threw 37 touchdown passes, which was second only to Ward as the most of any quarterback eligible for the 2025 draft. Sanders also won the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and was voted the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.

Despite Sanders’ outstanding play, the Browns and Titans, two clubs in need of a quarterback, choose first. Although Sanders has only been connected to the Raiders through mock drafts thus far, there has also been some conjecture that the young signal caller is of interest to the Raiders.

Schoen isn’t that concerned if Sanders and Ward, the other quarterback associated with them, aren’t present when the Giants start.
