The Chicago Bears found their next play-caller quickly. Following a turbulent start to the season, head coach Matt Eberflus was fired following a poorly handled 23–20 Thanksgiving Day loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Bears announced that Ben Johnson, a former offensive coordinator for the Lions, would be their next head coach in an attempt to find someone to help them develop their franchise quarterback, Caleb Williams. It was simply a question of time until other teams approached the Lions after they had improved Jared Goff’s performance and the team’s overall offensive standing.

Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson talks about Caleb Williams’s inevitability

In one of the most recent Nightcap segments, NFL icon Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson said he was thrilled with Williams’ hire as well as the Bears’ front management.

Ocho clarified: “Ben Johnson has worked wonders with Jared Goff and the Lions offense,”

The former wide receiver claimed that Johnson and Chicago would have a “perfect relationship,” citing Johnson’s “creativity” as the reason why he felt confident enough to go for it on fourth downs.

He further claimed: “Now you go to another supporting cast in Chicago that has different skill sets, but it will get the job done very well. You have a great QB, a dual threat QB, who’s a little bit more mobile, a little bit more agile, can play off script a little better than Goff,”

Detroit was fourth overall in offensive yards per game and fifth overall in points per game when Johnson took over play calling duties for the Lions. The Lions scored more points on offense than any other NFL team as of this season and had the second-highest offensive yards in the league.

In the past two seasons, the Lions have also finished second overall in passing yards. Goff completed 621% of his 477 pass attempts in his first full season as a starter for the Los Angeles Rams, recording 3,804 passing yards and 28 throwing touchdowns. Similarly, Williams completed 62.5% of his 562 passing attempts, accumulating 3,541 passing yards and 20 passing touchdowns.
