Travis Kelce Talks Candidly About How Close He Was to Retiring

Although Travis Kelce may not be prepared to commit to playing into 2025, the Kansas City Chiefs star tight end never really thought about leaving this summer.

The 35-year-old made it obvious to reporters during the Chiefs’ minicamp this week that there was never any question about his return for the 2025 campaign. Kelce believes his desire to compete is still very much alive, despite the offseason rumors and the inevitable doubts that accompany age and NFL experience.

Following the second of three required minicamp drills, Kelce stated: “I got one year on this contract, I know that,”

 “And we’ll try to figure out something for next year. But right now, I’m focused on winning a championship this year.”

The three-time Super Bowl champion stressed his dedication to the team that selected him more than ten years ago. Kelce added:

“The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them. I can’t see myself playing anywhere else,”. “We’ll deal with [2026] when the time is right.”
“Really didn’t feel like it was my last game,”. “It just felt like I had a lot more to prove. You want to let the emotions die down; you don’t want to make a decision off of that. But once they did, I felt like I still had that fire in my chest to keep going—to keep chasing another Super Bowl.”
