In the NBA, home-court advantage is usually advantageous, but Saturday’s audience at American Airlines Center in Dallas will be anything but conventional.
Klay Thompson is ready for a “weird” atmosphere as the Dallas Mavericks play the Houston Rockets, their first home game since they traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.
On Thursday, he told reporters: “Probably a lot of heartbreak amongst the fans,”
“Probably some boos. But, as a professional, you have to embrace everything, and we’re paid to play this game and perform at the highest level. “I don’t know what to expect. I know Luka was so dear to every Mavs fan’s heart. We’ve just got to win, and do it on a consistent basis, and give ourselves a chance to win the whole thing, and I think that will ease all of the fans’ pain and anger.
“It’s going to be weird, but that’s what we sign up for.”

During a demonstration outside the stadium, fans voiced their disapproval of the transaction by chanting “sell the team.”
In addition to a Go Fund Me campaign that has generated $40,000 to put up a billboard denouncing general manager Nico Harrison and the Adelson family, who bought the team last year, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps said that further protests are anticipated on Saturday.
At the age of 25, Dončić was already a franchise icon, so to say it was a spectacular trade would be an understatement. Although the return of Anthony Davis at least gave the Mavericks another elite player, the big man is 31 and has previously struggled with durability issues.
