Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young recently shared that rapper Rod Wave reached out to him to show his support after Young was benched early in his sophomore season. Young had found success since returning to the starting lineup in week eight, and it seems that Wave may have played a role in his turnaround.
The 26-year-old rapper had taken to social media, asking Young to contact him after he was pulled from the game. Fans were curious if the call took place and what they talked about. Young finally addressed the conversation, expressing his gratitude without going into detail about the specifics.
“He had just hit me when I got benched and everything,” he said. “Being supportive, just like sending support. So I was definitely grateful for that.”
Young admitted that he had been a fan of Wave’s music before they connected, although they did not know each other personally before the Instagram post. The support from Wave appears to have had a positive impact on Young’s performance since then.
Although the Panthers’ overall record is still disappointing at 3-9, the team has been more competitive since Young returned as the starting quarterback. In the five games since his return, Young has completed 102 of his 169 passes, throwing for six touchdowns and three interceptions.
