Sports commentator, Stephen A. Smith, has some strong opinions about Serena Williams’ recent appearance in Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Drake diss song at the Super Bowl LIX performance. And by strong, I mean he thinks the tennis star’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, should divorce her over it!
So, what exactly is Smith’s problem with Williams’ performance? Well, it seems like he believes it’s a betrayal to her husband since she was rumored to have been romantically involved with Drake over a decade ago. Is this a valid reason why a husband should divorce his wife?
Of course, this controversy has sparked a lot of debate among sports fans. Some people agree with Smith and think that Williams shouldn’t have jumped on the performance but hey, for all you know, her husband permitted her to do so.
Williams made a surprise appearance in the performance, dancing during the Drake diss track ‘Not Like Us’ . The 42-year-old’s involvement was significant because she dated Drake in 2011.
But given that her romantic involvement with him was nearly 15 years ago and Williams now has a family of her own, First Take host Smith said it was poor look for the tennis legend to join in the pile on.
‘You could say give her props. If I’m your husband, why are you up there trolling your ex?’ Smith said.
‘If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his ass, ’cause clearly you don’t belong with me.
‘What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye. Bye.’
Fellow analyst Ryan Clark defended Williams, saying: ‘If you’re with Serena Williams you’re going to be a kept man anyway.’
Stephen A. Smith may have strong opinions about Serena Williams’ appearance in Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Super Bowl performance, but, it’s up to Williams and her husband to decide what is best for their marriage.
