As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, Shedeur Sanders is among the players who have sparked the most conjecture. Although the former Colorado star’s draft rating has fluctuated in recent weeks, one analyst has dealt the young Sanders what seems to be the last blow in recent days by labeling him “too small.”
The former Buffaloes quarterback is still the main topic of discussion leading up to the draft on Thursday. While some experts still predict that the son of the great Deion Sanders will be selected in the top ten this year, others have him placed as low as the middle of the first round or even lower.
Shedeur’s prospects were improved by the Buffaloes’ Pro Day a few weeks ago, but the criticism persisted.
Analyst opens up on Shedeur Sanders
Analyst Jeff Legwold rated Sanders poorly in his most recent post for ESPN, arguing that he is too short to be a successful quarterback in today’s game. Legwold placed Sanders at number 32 on his list of the top 100 prospects for the 2025 draft. The expert thought the 6-foot-1, 212-pound player might be too tiny to succeed on the professional football field, among other things.
In recognition of the former Buffs star’s talent, Legwold said: “When he sets his feet in a clean pocket, Sanders shows the best mechanics and accuracy of any quarterback in this draft. His 71.8% completion rate in two seasons in Colorado is an FBS career record.”
“He’s undersized and doesn’t throw the ball quickly, which partially explains why he took an FBS-leading 94 sacks in the past two seasons,”

It’s unclear where Sanders will be chosen in the draft, which is in a few days. Despite the fact that, barring an unforeseen circumstance, quarterback Cam Ward is the clear number one overall pick, experts are still divided about Shedeur’s future.
The fact that teams like the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Las Vegas Raiders have already taken care of their quarterback needs raises serious doubts about Shedeur Sanders’s future.
