Shedeur Sanders’ Inclusion in the Browns Roster Has Dillon Gabriel

For a player predicted to be selected on Day 3, the Cleveland Browns’ selection of quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round of the NFL draft was widely unexpected. However, it was swiftly eclipsed by the team’s selection of Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round, which put an end to his startling decline.

Since the selection, Sanders has made headlines both inside and outside of Cleveland, but Gabriel stated that he is welcoming the fellow rookie into a packed quarterback room.

Before the Browns’ second rookie minicamp practice on Saturday, Gabriel stated: “I love it,”

“I love it because of who it is. I think just for us both, you can learn from one another, but also it’s not just us two in the room. At least for right now it is. But going into the year, Kenny [Pickett], Joe [Flacco] and even Deshaun [Watson], just a bunch of guys who played a bunch of ball that we can all learn from one another.”

Sanders, meanwhile, said Saturday his focus isn’t on proving anyone wrong after the stunning fall in the draft. Although coach Kevin Stefanski downplayed the practice order, Sanders and Gabriel shared practice reps on the first day of rookie minicamp, with Gabriel getting the first few snaps in team drills. According to Stefanski, the rookies’ work in minicamp is both competitive and educational, and the upcoming quarterback competition will be a “all-encompassing evaluation.”
