Former cheerleader Kai DeBerry-Bostick has found herself in hot water after being arrested and charged for hitting a Maryland police officer with her car. The incident occurred as DeBerry-Bostick was trying to rush to work, leading her to drive into a crowded street fair, where the officer was stationed.
DeBerry-Bostick is now facing assault charges for her reckless actions, which endangered the lives of both the officer and innocent bystanders. This former cheerleader’s decision to prioritize her job over public safety has landed her in serious trouble with the law.
“I need to get out, I need to get out,” DeBerry-Bostick tells the officer in the video. “I gotta go.”
The unidentified cop patiently offers to call the cheerleader a cab, but she refuses, telling him that she works in Virginia, and gets out of her car while ignoring the lawman’s orders.
“You cannot move this,” the officer tells her.
“I have to sir,” she says, before screaming, “I got to go to work? What do you want me to do?”
“You cannot get out,” the cop says. “I can’t help you with that. Please do not disturb this area.”
“I might have to,” DeBerry-Bostick responds, and rips down the yellow police tape blocking the road. She then pulls on to Main Street, where booths can be seen lined up along the street as locals mingle — as the oblivious driver comes within 2 feet of a man pushing a stroller.
“Stop! Stop your car!” the officer yells, as people at the street festival are heard screaming.
The ex-college student is finally pulled out of the car and handcuffed on the pavement, video shows. Police said she was later charged with assault and was being held at the town lockup.
Laurel police said the officer suffered minor injuries but no one else was hurt.
“Quick action by Lauren Police,” the department wrote on the Facebook post. “Thanks to their rapid response, no festival-goers were harmed. However, during the incident one of our officers did sustain minor injuries after being struck by the vehicle.”
DeBerry-Bostick will have to answer for her actions and potentially face the consequences of her irresponsible behavior. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of following the rules of the road and respecting the authority of law enforcement officers.
