Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Eagles, addressed the elephant in the room at the beginning of his postgame news conference on Sunday.
About throwing for 290 yards and two touchdowns during the game, Hurts quipped, “so that’s what you all wanted to see,” as he approached the platform following a 27–13 victory over the Steelers. Due to harsh remarks made by wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith following the Eagles’ Week 14 victory over the Panthers, the passing game was scrutinized all week, and it paid off handsomely on Sunday.
Brown and Smith combined for 19 receptions, 219 yards, and two scores in the victory.
Jalen Hurts speaks about Eagles passing game
After Brown’s touchdown, Hurts and Brown danced, and the wide receiver told reporters it was “our moment to tell everybody to shut up.” Given that he initiated a discussion that Hurts claimed the team carefully considered as they got ready for Pittsburgh, Brown’s posture seemed strange.
Jalen said: “As I’ve said, when you’re able to win in multiple ways, obviously talented, and the opportunities are there, but it comes down to having good discernment of when to do something and when not to,”. “I’ve always said and believed that you want to make sure that all of your tools are sharp when you need them, so when it’s time to use them, you can go. Well, I don’t think there’s a doubt in that. I think, frankly, there’s an effort there. The approach was a little different this week. The grass will be green where you water it. We decided to water it and saw the fruits of our labor in that. Obviously, we’ve been watering the running game a good bit. It’s natural to put emphasis on one thing and take emphasis off of another and see what you guys have seen. We want to continue to be well-rounded, push to be well-rounded, and water all areas of our yard.”
The Eagles’ nine-game winning run coincided with all of the concern about their passing offense, and their successful push to ten games in a row served as a stark reminder that they will be a formidable postseason force.
