Many Pelicans players have missed a lot of time due to the worst injury bug imaginable. Trey Murphy III missed some time, Dejounte Murray hurt his hand in the season’s first game, and Zion Williamson has only appeared in six games. Out of their 27 games, none of the players in their anticipated starting five have played more than 18. Marc Stein reported that Zion Williamson and nearly every other player on the squad are up for trade owing to the team’s lack of success. What Stein reported is as follows:
“While naturally resistant to trade inquires for their younger gems, Herb Jones, rookie Yves Missi, and Trey Murphy III, word is that the Pelicans are essentially open to trade pitches for pretty much anyone else on the roster apart from those three amid more injury woes than even Philadelphia.”
Given that rookie Yves Missi has shown promise, it makes sense for the Pelicans. Their top defensive player, Herb Jones, was named to the All-Defensive First Team only the previous season. They retained a fantastic player going forward by signing Trey Murphy III to a rookie-scale agreement.
Is Zion Williamson ready to make a move?
Is there a team that would take the chance now that it has been rumored that the Pelicans are open to considering a Zion trade? He was largely healthy last year, but he is struggling with ailments this season and has only played in six games. Then, he participated in just 29 games in 2022–2023. He participated in 24 games during his debut campaign in 2019–20. Zion’s value has now declined, and the Pelicans may be trading from a vulnerable position.
A talent like Zion, however, will have many suitors. Teams that are not desirable destinations for free agents must be considered. The Portland Trail Blazers, Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, Charlotte Hornets, and Washington Wizards are a few examples. These teams all have poor standings, are searching for a bright new star, and are unattractive to free agents. The Miami Heat are a franchise that is always a possibility, but it is unlikely that Zion will make it through the notorious Heat workouts.
