FBI Alerts Leagues to Home Invasions of Players

Luka Doncic‘s home was recently broken into like many high-profile athletes. After a series of break-ins at the residences of well-known NFL and NBA players, the FBI is alerting sports leagues to criminal organizations that prey on elite athletes.

According to an FBI Liaison Information Report acquired by ABC News, the players’ homes are targeted because it is believed they may contain expensive items such as jewelry, watches, designer purses, and cash.

Following the break-ins, some of which happened while players were traveling with their teams for games, the NFL and NBA sent out security alerts to their players. According to the NFL’s advisory, elite athletes’ residences in a variety of sports are “increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups.”

Luka Doncic is the latest in a long list of athletes robbed

The most recent professional athlete to have their home broken into is Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks. The star guard’s business manager, Lara Beth Seager, reported a break-in at Doncic’s house on Saturday. Doncic reported the incident to the police, and according to Seager, no one was there when it happened on Friday night.

NBA stars Mike Conley Jr. of Minnesota and Bobby Portis of Milwaukee have also been victims, as have Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and NFL quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City and Joe Burrow of Cincinnati. According to the FBI: “While many burglaries occur while homes are unoccupied, some burglaries occur while residents are home,”. “In these instances, individuals are encouraged to seek law enforcement help and avoid engaging with criminals, as they may be armed or use violence if confronted.” “These preparation tactics enable theft groups to conduct burglaries in a short amount of time,”

According to the FBI investigation, South American organized thievery gangs use social media and publicly accessible information to track the whereabouts and habits of athletes.
