According to Cam Newton, one of the top sports in the United States will soon be the WNBA. The 2015 NFL MVP said that one of the Big Four leagues is a “dying sport” that would soon be overtaken by women’s basketball during an interview.
Cam Newton claims NBA is a “Dying Sport”
Newton, a former multisport athlete, thinks that with the rise of WNBA players like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, baseball is the sport that will lose its position.
According to Newton: “Baseball is like a — I hate to say — a dying sport. “I think baseball will be surpassed by WNBA in 20 years. Baseball isn’t being played by Americans anymore.”
Newton reacted as one of his co-hosts remarked, “bring back steroids”: “I don’t know about bring back steroids.”
“I’m Cam Newton, and I do not approve that message.” “We’ve got a bunch of blurters, blurting out s***.” “For those that take offense to that, it’s just the truth?” “Who’s really paying attention to baseball? “Especially baseball during the regular season.”
Stephen A. Smith, who faced controversy for his opinions on Shohei Ohtani, is significantly more affected by Newton’s remarks. The ESPN expert had stated in 2021 that Ohtani’s status as MLB‘s face was unfavorable because of his poor English and requirement for an interpreter.
Later on, he apologized profusely. With 16.7 million viewers, Game 4 of the World Series brought MLB its largest audience since 2019.
Then, Game 5 exceeded expectations by drawing in 18.6 million viewers, the most since 2017.
