Be it for the good, bad, ugly, or downright shocking, 2024 was full of monumentally memorable moments!

Now, as the year draws to a close, That Grape Juice is reflecting on the occasions that rocked – and to some degree maybe even reshaped – the Urban and Pop cultural landscape as we know it.

Spars in Hip-Hop are largely considered par for the course and typically cited as central to the lyrical sport.

However, every so often, some feuds skew so big and so culturally impactful that they are etched in the history books in their own regard.

This year the beefs between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, as well as Kendrick Lamar and Drake easily nab those honors.

With the ladies, murmurs of discord had been gaining volume in preceding years. Fans noticed eyebrow-raising unfollows on social media and many took note of seemingly subtle jabs too.

Folk were left under no uncertainty of the disdain with the January arrival of Megan’s ‘Hiss’ – a track she says was simply aimed at all of her detractors.

The Houston native notably never mentioned Minaj by name. Yet, it was still enough to rattle her one-time collaborator (pours a little out for ‘Hot Girl Summer’). And the beef was officially…on.

In the days and weeks that followed, sparks flew with Minaj becoming a firm fixture on social media slamming her rival and eventually releasing her own diss, ‘Big Foot.’

Meg’s track hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while ‘Foot’ didn’t make much of an impact.

Similarly, with K. Dot and Drizzy, whispers of war had been brewing for years.

Yet, Lamar’s feature on Future and Metro Boomin’s Hot 100 #1 ‘Like That’ appeared to light a match (and a heat streak) that continues to scorch as we type.

The Compton native and the Canadian would exchange a seemingly endless array of personal diss tracks, yet it was Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ that delivered what the culture deemed the definitive TKO.

For, as much of a diss as it is, it also functions as a colossal club jam. One that remains omnipresent as of typing.

It undoubtedly set Lamar on the path to even more wins, nabbing the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show and major nominations at the GRAMMY Awards 2025.

As for Drake, he’s filed legal complaints against Universal Music and Spotify – alleging that the entities colluded to inflate the success of ‘Not Like Us.’ A move that extends the narrative the more.
