Queen of Pop Madonna may be used to raking up royal controversy for her sexual expressiveness, eccentric stage costumes, and boundary-pushing music videos over the last 40 years, but she’s nabbed her fair share of headlines for making comments many deem egotistical and narcissistic as well.
From referring to herself as ‘master’ and saying Beyonce and JAY-Z learned from her to that cringeworthy tribute to the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin‘s at the 2018 MTV VMAs, toasting herself after Lil Nas X’s headline-grabbing BET Awards kiss, and more, Madge is used to being on the receiving end of criticism for self-indulgence.
The trend seems poised to continue thanks to some off-putting comments the Pop diva made on Instagram recently in celebration of the 30th anniversary of her groundbreaking fifth studio album, ‘Erotica.’
Look inside to see what she said that ruffled the feathers of Cardi B and her beloved fan group, the #BardiGang.
With the 30th anniversary edition of her ‘Erotica’ LP finally on digital shelves this weekend, Madge took to IG over the weekend to salute the controversial project and the era that supported it.
Via a story post (seen above), the 64-year-old reflected on the backlash the effort drew at the time of its release – stripes she now wears with pride as the endeavor helped open doors for female artists after her to speak openly about their sexuality.
“Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP, Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass, and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball,” she said. “You’re welcome, bitches.”
While the general tone of the message was well-received, many took umbrage with the inclusion of the clown emoji at its end. Among those aggrieved was Cardi, who was mentioned in the post.
Taking to Twitter Sunday morning (October 23), the GRAMMY-winning rapper didn’t hold back with her clap back.
Some Madonna fans didn’t take Cardi’s clap back lightly, however. Look below to see the back-and-forth that ensued after the Rap diva’s response to Madge’s call out.
At writing, Madonna has not responded to Cardi’s comments.
