One of ESPN’s most well-known figures, Stephen A. Smith, recently acknowledged that his rigorous work schedule and personal philosophy have prevented him from ever getting married.
Smith gave a real and unvarnished account of his decisions on Cam’ron’s Talk With Flee podcast, explaining why he feels marriage isn’t a good fit for him.
Smith, a longtime ESPN mainstay, acknowledged that his work ethic has seriously hampered his ability to build connections. He explained why he was unable to commit to the concept of marriage, citing his schedule, which requires him to work 330 days a year and travel 200 of those days.
He told Cam’ron : “It is the reason why I’ve never been married,”. “Because I was on the road 200 days out of the year, and the fact of the matter is at that time it was no way in hell I was going to be faithful. I knew that, so why the hell am I going to sit up there and violate my marital vows knowing ahead of time I ain’t going to honor them?”
Reactions from Fans to Stephen A. Smith’s Take On Marriage
Fans had differing opinions on Smith’s statement, even though it demonstrated a certain amount of self-awareness. Many of them questioned the real reasons for his choice. Some of the comments were :
“Bro you don’t gotta get all articulate. Just say you enjoy having money and h**s,”
“Men that wear sunglasses indoors regardless of the lighting are self-absorbed and can’t be trusted.”
“I don’t think that’s the reason,”
“I coulda swore when I used to watch First Take, bro was gone every other month.”
Smith’s admittance seems unquestionable, but it begs the issue of whether his viewpoint might change if he found someone who could put up with his demanding lifestyle.
