Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, has officially confirmed that he will return for the 2025 NFL season, ending reports that he was retiring. His choice comes after some introspection following the Chiefs’ defeat by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025.
Following the Super Bowl loss, Kelce paused to think about his future. Often considered one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, the 35-year-old veteran turned to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid for advice.
Reid urged Kelce to take some time off to think things through before making a choice, even though he acknowledged his potential outside of football.
Rashee Rice talks about Travis Kelce’s retirement decision
In reference to the rich media and entertainment prospects that await Kelce when he decides to retire, Reid stated: “He’s gonna make a killing there,”
Rashee Rice, however, was the Chiefs player who persuaded Kelce to remain. In a recent interview with Revolt, Rice stated:
“I ain’t gonna lie to y’all. I’m 95 percent of the reason he ain’t retiring. I ain’t gonna lie to y’all,”
“Told him he can’t go out like that. I’m gonna make sure we get that next year. He was fine hanging it up. I’m pretty sure he was gonna hang it up. And I’m like, bro, we can’t go out like that.
“I’m like, ‘bro, we got to go win that. I’m going to make sure we win that.’ That’s what I told him.
“I texted him. He basically was like, ‘bro, I really appreciate that.’ He’s like, ‘you really got me thinking about it. I really appreciate you reaching out to me.’ And then I seen it pop up on the media. I said, all right now.”

Ahead of the upcoming season, Kelce recently unveiled a new haircut as a symbolic gesture of progress. Vince Garcia, his longtime barber, posted the new look on Instagram, pointing out that although Kelce kept his trademark longer haircut, he cut his beard to make it look neater.
As he prepares for another season with the Chiefs, the move signifies the conclusion of the previous one and a new beginning.
