One of the Nba’s Greatest Streaks May Come to an End with LeBron James’ Injury

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are currently going through some upheaval. Following a winning run that propelled the Lakers into the running for the #2 spot in their conference, the excitement around the acquisition of Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks gave way to doubts that the All-NBA guard would get along with the current superstar LeBron James.

However, Lakerland is tense after the team lost to the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics back-to-back, and James is currently out with a groin strain.

Although James’ injury threatens to end one of the greatest streaks in league—and sports—his absence, Doncic and guard Austin Reaves are optimistic that Los Angeles will resume its winning ways.

Threatening LeBron James’ All-NBA run?

Of the Lakers’ 63 games this season, James has participated in 58; 65 games is the threshold for All-NBA and award eligibility. For the first time since 2003–04, when he was a rookie with the Cleveland Cavaliers, James might be left off the All-NBA roster, depending on how long his groin injury keeps him out.

James, 40, has made 13 appearances on the All-NBA first team, three on the second team, and four on the third.

Basketball’s first-ever player to score 50,000 points is just seven games away from continuing the NBA’s longest streak of this kind. But with the Lakers aiming for a championship, “The King” might believe that rest and recovery are more crucial than trying to make it onto yet another All-NBA squad.

As the games take on a more playoff feel, the Lakers will continue to rely on team defense for as long James is sidelined. Los Angeles limited seven opponents to less than 110 points during their previous eight-game winning streak; only two teams scored more than 102 points during that time.

The Lakers’ defense has significantly improved recently, according to James, and after a string of defeats, Los Angeles needs to step up the pressure to meet its goal of finishing the regular season with the second-best record in the fierce Western Conference.
