LeBron James had to wait seven seasons to reach his first NBA Finals and eight seasons to win. He had previously won two MVP awards prior to that, and he was vying for the third without a ring. Lamar Jackson‘s career is in a similar phase. He is in his seventh season in the NFL, a two-time MVP, and he hopes to win a ring someday soon. And Chris Broussard feels that the future is far closer than we think.
Like King James, Broussard thinks Lamar will finally make it to the playoffs this season and get the monkey off his back.
Analyst compares Lamar Jackson’s journey to LeBron James
On “First Things First,” Broussard predicted that Jackson would not only win and lift the elusive Lombardi but also make it to the Super Bowl this time.
“This is the year he gets over the hump. Not only does he play well in the playoffs, but he also leads the Ravens to the Super Bowl.”
Like LeBron, Jackson gets a horrible case of the yips throughout the playoffs, but Broussard points out James’s difficulties before he finally got close and won it, arguing that great players must overcome obstacles in order to be truly great.
“Let’s say it’s nervousness. The great ones have to get over that. I remember another great one who used to get fidgety and nervous and has meltdowns in the biggest games. I am talking about great LeBron James. He had to do soul-searching and he got over it.”
Despite receiving two first-round selections, Lamar has a 2-4 postseason record, 1845 total yards, 9 touchdowns, and nine turnovers. He has only attended one AFC game with the Ravens. However, he has had the opposite results during the regular season.
Why, therefore, does Chris Broussard believe he will do well in the postseason this time?
For starters, Lamar is performing like an MVP once more and setting records that we have never seen from him before. He has thrown for more than 4000 yards, 41 touchdowns, and only nine turnovers for the first time in his career. His talent to be a pocket passer has finally been demonstrated as he has improved his passing game. In addition, he has four running touchdowns and 915 yards of rushing.
