Kenyon Martin Expresses “Fears” About Anthony Edwards After Double-Team Remarks

Following his recent remarks over being double-teamed, Anthony Edwards has gained a lot of attention in the basketball community. The discussion has spread to other talk shows and podcasts, such as Gil’s Arena panel.

The Minnesota Timberwolves player received a harsh warning from Kenyon Martin during the conversation, telling him to get ready for a season in which opponents will probably take advantage of this vulnerability.

Martin emphasized how other teams might be inspired to use the same tactic in any circumstance by Edwards’ unease with double teams.

Martin stated: “For one, it’s a sign of respect. Let’s call it for what it is… So if I’m listening to this as other teams… You wanna put him in the post, we’re gonna double him. You wanna run the pick and roll, we’re gonna double him. He go to the bathroom, we’re gonna double him,”

Edwards made the widely criticized remark on double teams following the Timberwolves’ 115-118 loss to the Boston Celtics. Despite referring to the strategy as a “good brand of basketball,” Edwards voiced his displeasure with it.

Anthony Edwards voiced his displeasure: “I’m only 23, I don’t want to just be passing the ball all night. … But the way that they’re guarding me, I think I have to. Them doubling me, definitely it’s like, ‘Bro, what is going on?’ I’m trying to figure it out … I don’t know what to do honestly, but it’s not fun,”

Martin’s assertion that every club would routinely double-team Edwards is not credible.
