As previously reported, Songz (born Tremaine Neverson) and his legal team (led by lawyer Sasha Frid) petitioned a judge to dismiss the default judgment against the singer on the grounds he was never properly served notice at his home.

“Neverson did not know about this lawsuit until Nov. 27, 2024, when he received Instagram messages from fans extending their support after news broke about Dunn’s default judgment,” according to Trey’s attorneys. “Neverson deserves to have his day in court to defend himself, rather than being subjected to a massive default judgment which was improperly obtained in an underlying case that Neverson knew nothing about until a week before filing this motion,” the petition stated.

That “day in court” will give the GRAMMY nominee a chance to detail his take on that fateful night’s events in 2021 where Neverson and his security guards allegedly assaulted plaintiff Tyrelle Dunn at The Cosmpolitan Hotel in Las Vegas.

“The attack has had a profound and everyday impact on my life. I still have the scarring, and suffer emotionally from the attack,” Dunn said about the event he said injured his head, eyes, stomach, ribs, face, nose, and more. “I think about the attack every day when I see the injuries to my face and body.”

According to the plaintiff, a Maryland police officer, his wife – who he was trying to rescue from Trey’s hotel room – was also assaulted and being kept against her will.

Although the Las Vegas judge ordered a whopping $11.2M default judgment against Trey – a sum comprised mostly of $5M for pain and suffering and another $5M for punitive damages – the recent reversal will offer a financial sigh relief for the singer temporarily.

Dunn’s legal team aren’t letting the issue go without a fight, however.

“While we had hoped that the judgment would stand, we respect the court’s decision and look forward to conducting discovery regarding Mr. Songz and the security personnel who attacked my client,” said Craig Drummond, an attorney representing Tyrelle Dunn. “We plan to zealously move this case forward and will move to bring in all of the security entourage as Defendants once Mr. Songz produces their names and addresses.”
