Tom Brady‘s tenure as the primary NFL analyst for Fox Sports may come to an end due to his involvement with the Las Vegas Raiders. That’s what former MLB executive David Samson thinks, anyway. Brady and the NFL broadcaster negotiated a 10-year, $375 million contract, of which he is now in the first year.
Since he became a minority owner of the Raiders, though, that position has been called into doubt. Mark Davis recently declared that he will have a “huge voice” in the future of the team.
Since the Raiders fired Antonio Pierce earlier this week, many think Brady will play a part in choosing the team’s new coach. Samson, however, thinks Brady won’t be going back to his position as lead commentator for the upcoming campaign.
David Samson talks in detail about Tom Brady’s Fox Sports contract
On the Dan Le Batard Show, Samson stated: “Tom Brady is running that team right now – the NFL knows it and Fox knows it and something has got to give. So enjoy Tom in the booth because you’re not going to see him there next year,”
“He will be in the Raiders front office, he will not return as an analyst for Fox – you cannot be this involved in the operation of a team and be the No 1 analyst.
‘It’s an absolute insult to analysts what he’s doing. And it’s an insult to team president what he’s doing.
“You end up doing both of them in a mediocre way… and I promise you he will choose the Raiders.”
When asked if this was knowledge he had been given or if it was merely a hunch, Samson replied as follows: “Tom Brady will not be with Fox next season, he’ll be full time in the Raiders front office running that team. Period.”
Samson’s remarks are the most recent to raise concerns about Brady’s TV future. Given his numerous endeavors outside of football, Ricard Deitsch and Andrew Marchand of The Athletic recently expressed their doubt that the former New England Patriot will finish out the remainder of his contract.
Whatever the rumors, Brady will work Super Bowl LIX on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
