Draymond Green Says He’s Not an Angry Black Man After Whacking Naz Reid in The Face

After a 117-93 loss to the Timberwolves in Game 2 of the 2025 NBA playoffs, Warriors star Draymond Green addressed a narrative he’s long battled. “I’m not an angry Black man,” he told reporters. “I’m a successful, educated Black man with a great family and I’m great at basketball. The agenda to make me look like an angry Black man is ridiculous.”

Green’s comments followed his fifth technical foul of the postseason for elbowing Naz Reid, an incident that drew boos and nearly cost him composure. With two more technicals, he risks a suspension—a concern for a Warriors team without Stephen Curry, who’s nursing a hamstring injury. Green’s physical style and history of incidents, like choking Rudy Gobert or stomping on Domantas Sabonis, have fueled his “enforcer” reputation, but he insists it’s a stereotype rooted in bias.

Supporters like Shannon Sharpe see Green as a throwback competitor, while critics argue his actions invite scrutiny. Coach Steve Kerr calls Green’s intensity both a strength and a liability. At 35, with four championships and a Defensive Player of the Year award, Green wants to be seen for his achievements, not a caricature. As he nears the technical foul limit, the challenge is clear: stay composed while being the heart of his team.

Do you think Green’s unfairly labeled, or do his actions shape the narrative?
