Much like fellow hitmakers The Weeknd and Miguel, R&B bad boy Chris Brown is enjoying a headline-grabbing run on current Billboard listings thanks to an aged sleeper hit-gone-viral on Tik Tok.
‘Under the Influence,’ originally found on 2019’s ‘Indigo‘ album, has been a chart force since finding popularity on the video-based social media platform in early 2022.
At the top of this year the Kiddominant-produced bop peaked at #12, marking the highest rung Brown’s reached by himself since 2012’s ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ soared to #10.
Even more impressive are the strides ‘Under’ is making over on R&B charts. See what we mean inside.
Though currently rocking stages across the pond on the European leg of his ‘Under the Influence Tour,’ Chris received news the jaunt’s title tune had ascended to #1 on Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay – a ranking that lists the top R&B and Hip-Hop songs in the U.S. based on radio audience impressions.
The tenth time the GRAMMY winner has seen his named printed there, the rise of ‘Under’ makes him the second singer in the chart’s history to own at least 10 #1s. Among all vocalists, Usher leads with 15.
But while Ush reigns with overall number of chart toppers, Brown has spent the most time at its summit having amassed a whopping 98 career weeks there with the addition of ‘Under.’ This makes the 33-year-old the most-tenured singer in the chart’s history as far as #1 runs are concerned.
Overall, the only artist to have spent more time at the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay tally’s top is Drake, who has watched his record-setting 29 #1 hits spend a collective 176 weeks as leaders.
