Chart Check: Madonna Becomes First Woman To Have a New Hot 100 Hit In Each of the Last 5 Decades Thanks to The Weeknd’s ‘Popular’

In toastworthy news, Queen of Pop Madonna – no stranger to boasting her share of unprecedented Billboard stats – has added yet another achievement to her shiny collection thanks to the warm reception of her June 2-released tune, ‘Popular,’ with The Weeknd and Playboi Carti.

More inside.

With its #43 premiere on the refreshed Hot 100, ‘Popular’ shines as the week’s second-highest debut for a female-led song (following the #13 arrival of Latto and Cardi B‘s ‘Put It On Da Floor Again’).

The entry not only marks Madge’s first Hot 100-charting single since 2015’s ‘B*tch I’m Madonna,’ but more importantly pencils the historic milestone of the Pop royal becoming the first woman to land a new placement on the hitlist over the last 5 distinct decades (80s, 90s, 00s, 2010s, and 2020s).

In fact, the only other woman to accomplish such feat in the chart’s 64-year history overall is Cher (who debuted titles across the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s).

Among all acts, the exclusive club of performs to have debuted tunes on the tally across a longer span are King of Pop Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra, and The Isley Brothers (6 decades each) and Elvis Presley (7 decades).
