The Indiana Fever announced on Monday that standout Caitlin Clark will be sidelined for at least two weeks due to a strain in her left quad.
The team stated that after reevaluation, more updates would be given. Through four games this season, Clark, a first-team All-WNBA selection and last year’s Rookie of the Year, is averaging 19.0 points and a league-high 9.3 assists.
Clark will be missing her first regular-season games of her nascent WNBA career. At Iowa, where she became the all-time top scorer in NCAA Division I basketball, Clark was just as resilient and never missed a game.
The point guard, however, missed a preseason game against the Washington Mystics due to what she characterized as quad discomfort after suffering a left quad injury during training camp. During that time, she informed local journalists that it was “probably just a little too much basketball.”
The Fever (2-2) will play their first game without Clark on Wednesday when they travel to Baltimore to play the Mystics (2-3). Indiana’s next games are against the Connecticut Sun on Friday and the Mystics on June 3. They will then travel to play the Chicago Sky on June 7 and the Atlanta Dream on June 10.
