Saturday’s devastating loss was the Indiana Fever’s second of the early season, and like most Fever games, there was a good deal of controversy surrounding the setback.
This time, the officiating was the source of the disagreement. To end the game, the Fever were unlucky to receive at least three calls. The first was a no-call on DeWanna Bonner, who appeared to play through some contact while attempting a layup.
The second was when Lexie Hull was called for fouling Sabrina Ionescu across the floor.

The Liberty took a late 90-88 lead in the fourth as Ionescu made both of her free throws. The third was a no-call that ended the game for Caitlin Clark, who attempted to get off her shot in time but was stopped by Natasha Cloud of Liberty, who seemed to touch Clark during her crucial steal.
Fever coach Stephanie White expressed her thoughts on the varied officiating after the game’s wild conclusion. White said:
“I thought [Clark] got fouled,”. “I think it’s pretty egregious what’s been happening to us the last few games… I might be able to understand it if we were just chucking threes, but we’re not. We’re attacking the rim. And the disrespect right now for our team has been pretty unbelievable. It’s disappointing that it doesn’t go both ways, or hasn’t gone both ways.”

White continued by stating that her squad needed to overcome the toughness and figure out how to win close games, but it was evident from her remarks regarding the officiating that she was upset over Saturday’s defeat.
