Over 20 years separate fans of Anita Baker from her last album, 2004’s ‘My Everything,’ but the wait for a new addition to her prized discography could soon be coming to an end.
Baker has been promising new music since announcing she had defeated her record label in the battle for ownership of her master recordings in 2021.
And though she kicked off 2023 with teases of what she’s been working on, nothing has materialized as of time of this report – a status that’s undoubtedly worried her legion of diehard fans.
Hoping to ease those concerns, Baker took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to confirm she is still hard-at-work on the LP.
“New music on the way,” she revealed after celebrating a slew of streaming and box office stats she’s collected over the last year.
The revelation came not long before Baker took to social media to show love to NPR ‘Tiny Desk‘ producer Robert “DJ Cuzzin B” Carter for making a plea for her to grace the wildly popular platform with a mini-concert.
“You know you mean everything. I don’t know if I would be in this position if I didn’t have this love in my heart for music – for your music,” he said during a recent podcast visit. “I need you.”
While Anita didn’t expressly state acceptance of his invitation to be hosted on ‘Tiny Desk,’ she did share the clip (seen above) to her Twitter timeline with a simple “XO” in response.
The mention was enough to send her fans into a frenzy, however, with many taking to the comments to urge her to visit the platform to crank out live renditions of her biggest hits like ‘Sweet Love,’ ‘Body & Soul,’ and more.
Time will tell if we will see the Queen of Quiet Storm grace ‘Tiny Desk’ to become a royal addition of the show’s megawatt roster that includes Usher, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, Chaka Khan, Justin Timberlake, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and many more.
