The college football Heisman Trophy four candidates for this season have been revealed. It should come as no surprise that Travis Hunter of Colorado and Ashton Jeanty of Boise State are the front-runners to win the award.
They are ahead of quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders of Colorado, Dillon Gabriel of Oregon, who finished first in the regular season, and Cam Ward of Miami, who did not lead his team to the playoffs but is expected to be a top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Travis Hunter Discusses His Individuality
When it comes to his game, Hunter has never boasted and has always shown humility and hard work. He did, however, make an exception on the “Pivot Podcast,” demonstrating his confidence in defeating Jeanty to win the Heisman. Using every available public forum before Saturday’s revelation, Hunter declared audaciously: “You’ve never seen a player like me before… The first thing I told my trainer was, ‘I wanna be the best player you ever trained.”

He has undoubtedly presented his point. When he joins the NFL in August of next year, it will be intriguing to watch what the head coach decides about which side of the ball he will play on. Hunter also said in the video that he is willing to play on both sides, which has never been done before and which, given the pressures he faces on a play-by-play basis, I don’t believe can be sustained in the NFL.
This season, Hunter became the first player to be selected to the All-Big 12 All-Offensive and All-Defensive teams. It’s indisputable that this historic season has been amazing, even though this accomplishment might give him an advantage over Jeanty for the Heisman Trophy—something I don’t think should happen but probably will. Hunter’s honors emphasize his domination on defense, where he excelled on both sides of the ball and played more snaps than any other player in NCAA history in a single season.
