The whimsical film, led by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, had its home entertainment release on December 31.

Now, it has been announced that the Jon M. Chu production has amassed $70 million in US and Canada sales during its opening week of premium video-on-demand availability.

The win, which comes as the film nears $700 million at the global box office, is unprecedented given its expedited VOD release.

‘Wicked’s touchdown comes ahead of the November 21 release of its sequel, ‘Wicked: For Good.’
