Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather recently had a terrifying encounter while shopping in London’s jewelry Quarter. The former world champion found himself surrounded by a large crowd of around 30 people while visiting a jewelry store in Hatton Garden. Dressed in a green jacket and camo trousers, Mayweather appeared visibly distressed as his security team tried to protect him.
As the mob taunted the billionaire boxer, his bodyguards attempted to swiftly get him into a waiting blacked-out 4×4. Eventually, Mayweather was ushered into the vehicle, leaving some of his security staff behind. Videos of the incident show the 47-year-old shouting back at the crowd before his escape.
Despite initial reports suggesting that Mayweather was unharmed, one witness claimed that the athlete “took a few hits.” However, a source close to Mayweather informed claimed that he was “not touched” during the incident.
According to the source, the commotion started when Mayweather was asked about his support for Israel. In response, he expressed his pride in supporting the Jewish community, which provoked someone to physically attack him.
They continued: ‘Then someone took a swing at him because of that. It looked very targeted.
‘Floyd took a few hits during it, but his security was trying to push people back.
‘I couldn’t really see Floyd trying to throw any punches back. His guards were just trying to get distance between him and them.’
Videos posted to X also claimed the boxer had caused anger over his comments about Israel.
One person posted a video of the incident with the caption: ‘Floyd Mayweather chased out of Hatton Gardens in London. The public are angry over his comments and support for Israel.’
The source close to Mayweather also told The Sun members of the crowd ‘used racial slurs’ towards him.
This unexpected incident highlights the challenges that public figures like Mayweather can face, even when simply trying to go about their daily activities. Luckily, Mayweather was able to make a safe escape from the mob and continue his shopping adventure.
