The Kansas City Chiefs may have scored the winning touchdown at the 2024 Super Bowl, but the game itself has been proven to be the overall winner.

With updated numbers revealed on Tuesday (February 13), Nielsen has revealed Sunday’s big game (February 11) was not only the most-watched Super Bowl ever but the most-watched program in the history of American television.

Uniquely also the longest Super Bowl ever, the thrilling spectacle – highlighted by an electrifying halftime show headlined by global R&B superstar Usher – averaged a whopping 123.7 million viewers across television and streaming platforms.

As if that’s not enough to boast, Nielsen reported a record 202.4 million watched at least part of the game across all networks.

For context, last year’s event (which featured Rihanna as the halftime show headliner) was crowned the most-watched Super Bowl at the time when it boasted 115.1 million viewers.

It should be noted that some of the increase can be attributed to a change in the way viewers are counted as Nielsen now includes out-of-home viewers from roughly 65% of the country in its ratings ranking (a move implemented in 2020).
