Tom Thibodeau’s Final Decision Has Already Been Made by the New York Knicks

The incredible 2024–25 NBA season for the New York Knicks ended on a bittersweet note. During the regular season, the team finished third in the Eastern Conference under head coach Tom Thibodeau‘s direction. But they lost to the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, ending their postseason run.

Although Knicks supporters were devastated by the defeat, Tom Thibodeau’s job as head coach is still guaranteed. James L. Edwards III and Fred Katz have reported that Thibodeau will be back for the upcoming season.

According to Edwards III and Katz:

“The coach has the backing of team president Leon Rose, league sources said, as well as full buy-in from Brunson, who signed with the Knicks in 2022 in part because he wanted to play for Thibodeau. But ultimately, owner James Dolan is the final decision-maker,”

For the franchise, this season was a major turning point. For the first time in more than 20 years, the New York squad made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Under Thibodeau’s direction, the team reached the NBA Finals and broke a seven-year postseason drought, but a championship was still out of reach.
