The NFL’s decision to suspend linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair for three games after a contentious hit on Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence in Week 13 infuriated Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio, who didn’t mince words.
Caserio Blasts NFL for Trevor Lawrence Tackle Verdict
Prior to the Week 14 bye for the Texans, Caserio criticized the league’s response to the incident, calling it “embarrassing.”
Caserio stated: “For the league to make some of the commentary about lack of sportsmanship, lack of coachability, lack of paying attention to the rules, quite frankly it’s embarrassing,” “And talk about a player who’s never been suspended, never been ejected-now we’re saying he’s going to be suspended for three games?”
There has been a lot of criticism for Al-Shaair’s hit on Trevor Lawrence, which resulted in a concussion and prompted the quarterback to leave the game.

Al-Shaair was accused by NFL Vice President of Policy and Rules Administration Jon Runyan of violating league safety regulations by “striking the head/neck area” with excessive force even though he had “time and space to avoid such contact.”
