Details inside.
The embattled Canadian hitmaker may currently be under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department for his reported role in shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion and later allegedly assaulting R&B singer August Alsina, but the Billboard 200 top 10 entry of ‘Sorry’ suggested the negative press was having minimal impact.
That is, until peruse of the same chart just two weeks later saw ‘What’ nowhere to be found. In fact, the trend of short-term chart tenancy is one that’s afflicted every Lanez project released since summer 2020 (when Stallion’s shooting was first reported). Before the incident, Tory’s Billboard 200-charting efforts averaged 3-4 month runs on the tally. Post-incident, his longest last on the hit list- 2020’s ‘Daystar’ album – only stayed 3 weeks.
‘Sorry’ marks his third consecutive project to remain on the chart for less than 3 weeks and follows the ‘Playboy’ mixtape (1 week of charting) and the ‘Alone at Prom’ album (2 weeks of charting) – both released in 2021.
The news comes just days after a judge ordered Tory to house arrest and electronic monitoring until the Stallion trial starts.
