Rio Olympian Simone Biles called Riley Gaines, a former American swimmer and political activist, “sick” and a “sore loser” after she posted on social media about a high school softball team.
Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer, made fun of moderators for shutting off comments on the social networking platform X after announcing the winners of a high school softball tournament. Biles, who has won eleven Olympic gold in gymnastics, replied to the post.

The Minnesota State High School League account shared a photo of the girls’ team from Chaplin Park enjoying their victory in the Class AAAA state title.
One of the players on Chaplin Park’s team is transgender.
Simone Biles goes on X to blast Riley Gaines
On X, Gaines wrote: “Comments off lol … To be expected when your star player is a boy,”
Gaines, who tied sixth in the 200-meter freestyle in the 2022 NCAA Swimming Championships alongside trans athlete Lia Thomas, has been vocal in her opposition to trans athletes participating in women’s and girls’ sports.
Biles said the former college swimmer harassed individuals because she “lost a race” in response to Gaines’ remarks on the high school photo on Saturday, AEST.
Biles penned: “You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser,”.
“You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports.
“But instead … You bully them … One thing’s for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around.”

Biles has been a steadfast supporter of athletes’ safety, particularly in regards to mental health. Biles was accused by Gaines of aiding “men stealing championships in women’s sports” in response. Gaines penned:
Gaines is now an outspoken supporter of preventing transgender athletes from competing against women and girls.
