RIAA: Drake Becomes First Artist to Sell Over 200 Million Singles / Breaks Rihanna’s Record for Most MultiPlatinum Hits Overall

Drake‘s domination of Billboard last week thanks to his latest album, ‘For All the Dogs,’ was just the tip of the iceberg of history-making success he achieved this month.

Beyond becoming the first act to amass over 75 Hot 100 top 10 hits, collect over 300 entries on the chart, and have the most #1 debuts (9 total), he tied King of Pop Michael Jackson‘s record for most #1 hits among males overall.

On the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) side of the fence, the wins were unprecedented as well.

Look inside to see his latest slew of certification upgrades.

Before his 37th birthday (October 24), Drizzy (born Aubrey Graham) already stood in American record books as the most successful artist in digital music history.

With a brigade of new certs attached to his name, he’s extended the record in a huge way.

Collectively, the updates bring his total single sales to 244 million in the U.S. – making him the first artist to cross the 200 million sold threshold.

For context, his closest competitor, Rihanna, sits at the 166.5 million mark (as of time reported).

Speaking of his former on-and-off-again boo, Rih formerly held the title for ‘most multiPlatinum hits among all artists‘ with her whopping 34 tunes certified 2x Platinum or higher. With Drizzy’s additions above, he now has 80 Platinum and 38 multiPlatinum hits respectively.  It should be noted that “Platinum” refers to sales equivalence of 1 million in the U.S.

Drake is now penciled in RIAA history books as the most-awarded act in Platinum and multiPlatinum categories.

Now with 80 Gold records to his name, he sits in third place behind Kanye West (93) and YoungBoy Never Broke Again (98). The term “Gold” refers to sales equivalence of 500,000 in the United States.
