Ahead of the GRAMMYs 66th annual ceremony set to air live from Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on February 4, 2024, the Recording Academy hosted its annual nomination special Friday (November 10) to reveal who will compete for next year’s trophies.
While jaws dropped at the acts listed in the “Big 4” (Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year), eyes definitely popped at the number of times relative newcomers Coco Jones and Victoria Monet saw their names mentioned respectively.
For actress-singer Jones, who earned her first Billboard #1 hit with the breakout single ‘ICU’ earlier this year, she landed 5 nods: Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, and Best Traditional R&B Performance (Simple w/ Babyface).
Monet watched the viral hit, ‘On My Mama,’ become her first solo Hot 100 hit and its parent album, ‘Jaguar II,‘ pounce to her biggest first-week sales to date in 2023.
The era’s success narrative is set to continue as she landed a whopping 7 nominations including Record Of The Year, Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, and Best R&B Performance.
Elsewhere, Halle Bailey earned her first solo GRAMMY nod (Best R&B Song) for the critically acclaimed song ‘Angel‘ while breakout South African starlet Tyla made a splash in the Best African Music category for her Hot 100 top 40 hit ‘Water.’
