Normani Praises Janet Jackson, Professes Love for ‘Discipline’ Album

Normani is dancing toward the release of her debut album ‘Dopamine’ and her latest promotional stop has seen her pay homage to her idols – namely Brandy (who features on the set) and Janet Jackson.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the 28-year-old said of the new material on ‘Dopamine’:

“I’m excited to perform “Lights On.” That’s my Janet moment.”

Continuing, she added:

“They [Brandy & Janet] literally the reason why I do what I do and why I’m able to be in the position that I am in: Black women. They redefined the standard of beauty, but also just the standard in music. I feel like Brandy and Janet have really been disruptive in their own ways. I love the album Discipline by Janet.”

We love 2008’s ‘Discipline’ too. From ‘Feedback’ to ‘Rock With U’ to ‘Luv’ to the title track, it’s super solid – and also super underrated.

Suffice it to say, it’ll be interesting to hear if there any mirroring influences on ‘Dopamine’ when it arrives on June 14.
