Nick Sirianni Blasts the Idea of Banning Tush Push

Nick Sirianni, the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, resisted the Green Bay Packers’ attempt to outlaw the tush push. At the NFL scouting combine on Tuesday, Sirianni stated: “I’ve seen some of the stuff that it’s an automatic play,”

”I almost feel a little insulted because we work so hard at that play. The amount of things that we’ve looked into, how to coach that play, the fundamentals. … I can’t tell you how many times we practice the snap. We practice the play because it’s not a play that was easy to practice in different ways. We figured out how to practise it.

“We work really, really hard and our guys are talented at this play. And so it’s insulting to say because we’re good at it, so it’s automatic.”

For the previous three seasons, Philadelphia has employed the play well behind Jalen Hurts in short-yardage situations, especially in Super Bowl 59 when they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40–22.

The play is a modified quarterback sneak in which two or three teammates line up behind Hurts and push him forward to try to earn the yardage required for a first down or touchdown. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst revealed Tuesday that the team had submitted a request to outlaw the play.
