Browns GM Confirms He Has No Intention of Trading DE Myles Garrett

In response to the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year’s trade request, Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry reaffirmed on Tuesday that he has no plans to trade defensive end Myles Garrett.

During the NFL scouting combine, Berry stated: “We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns,”  “… We don’t have an interest in trading Myles.”

Berry made her first public remarks since Garrett, a four-time All-Pro selection and six-time Pro Bowler, made a trade request in early February. Later, Garrett claimed that he and the organization did not have the same vision for the team’s future. Before Super Bowl LIX, Garrett told ESPN’s “NFL Countdown“: “Speaking with the management at the Browns, I don’t feel like our future is aligned with winning right now,”

“And that’s what I’m looking forward to do at this stage of my career.”

Andrew Berry talks more about Myles Garrett

The number of trade calls Berry has received about Garrett, who turns 30 in December, was not disclosed. Although Garrett has no more guaranteed compensation, he still has two years left on the historic five-year, $125 million agreement he signed in 2020.

Berry stated: “I’d say the big thing we are aligned on is everyone wants to win,” “Everybody’s frustrated with last year. I think where you can have a difference of opinion is the approach that it takes and some of the hard decisions that have to be made as you transition forward. But like I said, our perspective is we’re going to do the things to improve the team and one of the things that is very important is having Myles as part of the organization.”

The Browns’ 3–14 record was their lowest since their 0–16 record during Garrett’s debut season in 2017. In the 2025 NFL draft, Cleveland will have the second pick. According to the most recent mock draft by ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr., the Browns will select Cam Ward, a former quarterback for the University of Miami.

Berry stated: “What we’ll look to do is maximize the No. 2 [pick], that’s whether we select a quarterback, select a non-quarterback or move the asset,”
